How To Measure

Below is a detailed description of how to measure yourself so you can email us in preparation for your final fitting, if you have any questions what so ever PLEASE pick up the phone and talk to us.

NOTE: There is a Diagram at the very bottom of this page as a quick reference.

Although we have given you this guide New Park Suit Hire and Menswear cannot assume responsibility for the size or measurements you have taken. The customer is responsible for this information, thankfully we have inhouse alterations so final adjustments are normally easily completed.

New Park Suit Hire and Menswear cannot suggest a specific size.

We suggest having a friend, family member, or professional seamstress/ tailor take your measurements for the best results. We do not recommend customers take their own measurements.

It’s best to be measured in bare feet.

For Jackets the Chest Measurement is the most important. See the following for measuring tips:

Neck Measurement

  • Stand straight with your heels together and arms down at your side.
  • Measure around the middle of the neck, around your Adams apple or fullest part of our neck, keeping tape level.
  • Allow for index finger to fit between the tape and your neck for a comfortable fit
  • This measurement is taken in Centimeters or Inches.

Chest Measurement

  • You should only just be able to feel the tape on your chest. Do not over-inflate your chest but stand normally; you should be able to fit your index finger in between the tape and your chest.
  • Measure horizontally around the chest roughly at nipple level, under the armpits, and over your shoulder blades.
  • This measurement is a body measurement and there will be an allowance added to it to fit your jacket.
  • This measurement is taken in Centimeters or Inches.

Outside Sleeve Measurement

  • Stand straight with your heels together and arms down at your side.
  • Measure from where the seams on the shoulder meet to where you want the sleeve to end.
  • The measurement you input will be the measurement of your jacket sleeve. We recommend that the sleeve should go to the base of your thumb (located at the wrist joint).
  • This measurement is taken in Centimeters or Inches.

Waist Measurement

  • Stand straight and keep your heels together.
  • Measure horizontally around your waist, just inside where you like to wear the top of your trousers.
  • Place the measuring tape around your natural waist.
  • Make sure the tape is snug and does not ride over the waistband but you should be able to put your index finger inside the tape.
  • As a guide, normally this measurement will be about 2 inches above what you look for in stores, they like to flatter you, but we need real measurements.
  • This measurement is taken in Centimeters or Inches.

Hip Measurement

  • Measure around your hips and buttocks at their widest point on a pair of well-fitting trousers (not jeans).
  • Make sure your pockets are empty and the tape is not restrictive.
  • As a guide, you should not make the tape too snug. You only just be able to feel the tape when measuring.
  • This measurement is taken in Centimeters or Inches.

Outside Leg Measurement

  • Take your shoes off
  • Please also stand up straight, do not be tempted to look down as this will affect the measurement, use a mirror to look instead.
  • Measure from the top of the waistband on a pair of trousers (not jeans), keeping the measure taut, down to where you wish the bottom of the trousers to end.
  • Please bear in mind the fit you want over the shoe as this will affect the length of the trousers.
  • This measurement is taken in Centimeters or Inches.

Once you’ve taken your measurements, see the Size Charts in our Style Guide. The size charts show the measurements they use to make each size. Compare your measurements to the size chart to determine the size to order.

If your measurements indicate different sizes for the chest, waist, and hip measurements, we generally suggest ordering according to the largest measurement.
